Imagine yourself beachside on the Fourth of July weekend. Wake to the sound of the waves on the beach and the call of the seagulls. As the marine-layer clouds burn off, bright sunshine fills the afternoon sky. Late in the afternoon, a refreshing onshore breeze cools the evening air. Could it get any better than this? If you are a dog lover, the answer is yes! The inaugural Seaside Spectacular shows, at Seaside Park in Ventura, California, offers the best of the beach, a charming community, and an awesome dog show weekend!
Eleven specialty shows on Thursday, June 30, kicked off the weekend. People gathered to enjoy the shows and visit with friends from near and far. Picnic lunches and potluck dinners were the order of the day as the club members, guests, and judges enjoyed the celebrations.
The Ventura County Dog Fanciers Association hosts the cluster and held the first of three all-breed shows on Friday, July 1. Vendors displaying all their dog-related goodies lined Main Street. Food vendors from the county fair contributed to the upbeat atmosphere. In addition to the usual dog show activities, the club was pleased to support a community service project, K9s For Komfort. Exhibitors were invited to bring stuffed animals that were judged for “Best Stuffed Animal in Show” by our Best Junior Handler. After the show, all the toys were donated to a local hospital pediatric unit.
The Burbank Kennel Club hosted the Saturday and Sunday shows, July 2nd and 3rd. While new to the fairgrounds, The Burbank Kennel Club has a long history in the Southern California dog show scene. “The Black and White Show” continues to be a favorite of exhibitors, judges, and spectators. Innovative decorations and a win-photo backdrop featuring some of Hollywood’s brightest stars add to the fun!
It was a festive weekend at an incomparable venue. Members of the Ventura County Dog Fanciers Association and The Burbank Kennel Club had a great time planning the Seaside Spectacular shows. We are excited to welcome everyone again next year!
